{"id":14660,"date":"2020-04-13T00:26:24","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T00:26:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.janasebestovaphotography.com\/speaking-of-selfie\/"},"modified":"2025-04-27T17:38:12","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T17:38:12","slug":"speaking-of-selfie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.janasebestovaphotography.com\/en\/speaking-of-selfie\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaking of selfie."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h5>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Free Thoughts&#8230;<\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-1-color\">H<\/mark><\/strong>o always thought that the <strong><em>selfies<\/em><\/strong> were a young person&#8217;s thing.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-1-color\">P<\/mark><\/strong>ensavo: &#8220;You take selfie (in ancient times called self-portrait) because <strong><em>you don&#8217;t know who you are<\/em><\/strong>, you don&#8217;t know how to deal with the world and your inner ills, and you hope that in images of you you will find the answer.&#8221; Even I, as a good teenage student of photography, have taken some in my time (once I even burned the negatives to get the desired effect). <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-2-color\">C<\/mark><\/strong>rescinding, the various filters, acquired from society and surroundings, began to take over in my view of the<strong><em>self-portrait<\/em><\/strong> (called selfie in today&#8217;s times). I became convinced that taking selfies is pure expression of vanity and pride on the one hand, insecurity on the other. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-2-color\">C<\/mark><\/strong>os so, of course \ud83e\udd13, considering myself neither vain nor proud nor insecure, I stopped doing them completely and, if by chance it happened to me, I hid it in the meanders of bits, because if someone found out&#8230; <strong><em>what a shame<\/em><\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-1-color\">O<\/mark><\/strong>oday, Easter Sunday in the midst of a <strong><em>quarantine<\/em><\/strong>, sitting at my desk, I picked up the phone to see the effect of the light coming through the window on my face. And <strong><em>here I was sinning<\/em><\/strong> against my &#8220;principles.&#8221; I started shooting looking for &#8220;my best side,&#8221; the most beautiful light. I had a lot of fun. And I realize that the selfie is always cathartic if I embraced it in the right sense, it helps even in adulthood to know something new about yourself. It shows you what you don&#8217;t see in the mirror because you don&#8217;t want to see it.     <\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-theme-palette-2-color\">C<\/mark><\/strong>ondividing myself is always a step <strong><em>out of<\/em><\/strong> my <em><strong>comfort zone<\/strong><\/em>. A certain modesty about not looking vain has remained.
