“The human face is the most extraordinary subject for a photograph. Infinite layers can reveal the very essence of who we are and capture us for posterity. Without the formality of a posed studio shot a portrait can truly reveal the person in front of the lens”
When I photograph both adults and children I am always seeking authenticity by creating an atmosphere of empathy, discretion and kindness, allowing you to relax which is not always easy. As the barriers come down your face relaxes and the almost imperceptible asymmetry of a face or smile can reveal the unique personality beneath.
Photographing children is not always easy and they also require the same treatment without formal poses or backdrops, encouraging them to be spontaneous and using only technique and natural light to deliver a portrait that best captures your child and memory to always hold in your heart.
What to expect during your shoot?
The shoot usually takes a couple of hours in your home or a location of your choice that is suitable in terms of light and situation. I normally take head and shoulder shots with the subject looking towards the lens.
When I shoot children I tend to keep the background clear of clutter so I can focus on my subjects but of course they may want to hold a particular favourite toy.
When should you book your shoot?
You should give me a couple of weeks notice before and usually a chat in person or on the phone is sufficient to agree the location and understand your expectations.
How much does it cost?
